What are Stainless Steel Drill Bushes — DIN 172, Type A?

Our stainless steel drill bushes are precision guide sleeves for jigs and fixtures, manufactured to DIN 179 Type A. This standard defines a cylindrical, headless (no collar) press-fit drill bushing with a single radius or chamfer at one end for easy tool entry. In use, the bushing is pressed into a housing bore and provides a hard, wear-resistant guide for drills, reamers, or other tooling, ensuring repeatable accuracy and long service life.

What “DIN 179 Type A” Means

DIN 179 covers headless (collarless) drill or guide bushings. “Type A” (also called “Form A”) specifies one entry radius or chamfer on a single side; “Type B” variants have radii on both sides. The outer diameter is produced to a tight n6 tolerance and is intended for installation into a matching H7 housing bore, giving a precise press fit that locks the bushing in place and maintains alignment.

Made from hardened stainless steel, these bushes combine high surface hardness for wear resistance with corrosion protection for shop-floor durability. Typical hardened stainless versions are finished to a fine ground surface and heat treated to high hardness for extended life in production environments.

The DIN 179 geometry and tolerances deliver tight positional accuracy and smooth tool guidance. When installed into an H7 housing, the n6 outer diameter ensures consistent seating without additional collars or clamps, keeping fixtures compact while preserving rigidity and alignment over many cycles.
