What is a torque knob?

A torque screw is a thumb screw with a torque limiting mechanism, designed to prevent the user from applying too much torque and therefore force by overtightening the handle. The torque-limiting mechanism consists of sprung loaded ball bearings sitting in drilled conical seats. Once the torque is too high, the ball bearings slip from the sits and the hand knob spins independently from the threaded base.

Design Features

To adjust the force or torque limited on this hand knob, there is two set screws on the top face of the screw. Tightening these increases the amount of torque limited, therefore increasing the load on the work piece. The thread on this component is standard ISO metric coarse pitch. The end of this screw has a bullet nose designed to suit standard WDS swivel pads.
