Our History
The business was originally formed in 1952 under the name Woodside Die Sinking Co. Ltd. It was acquired some 6 years later by BOC Engineering who wanted to develop, manufacture and market a new range of standard components for jigs and fixtures; later to become known as 'Tooling Aids'.
This enterprise did not, however, prove profitable and was sold in 1964 to a group of private shareholders whose new name for the company incorporated the initial letters of the old. WDS Tooling Aids Ltd was turned around within two years and went from strength to strength.
2002 saw WDS celebrate it’s 50th Anniversary by offering customers a variety of special offers driven by customer request. This desire for customer satisfaction has also seen an expansion in our ‘Specials’ business supplying bespoke solutions to a variety of industries.
The service and solution philosophy adopted in our approach to business has reinforced our market leading status in the manufacture and supply of Jigs & Fixtures, Standard Parts, Workholding and Broaching, making us the preferred choice for most OEM’s and Resellers servicing the MRO market in the UK and overseas through a mature network of Export Distributors.

Global Distribution
WDS has an experienced in-house logistics team to ensure that all orders are shipped globally at the most competitive rates. WDS ships from its European Distribution Centre every working day using best in class couriers.
Typical transit times are:
- Standard service to Europe is next working day
- Standard service to ‘Rest of World’ is 3 working days
You can choose the delivery method according to the urgency of your requirement and we will do the rest whether same day, next day, before a certain time or on a nominated day sometime in the future.
WDS Manufacturing
WDS manufactures products to the highest of standards at its European production facility.
The WDS European manufacturing facility gives in-house control of design, quality and manufacture.
This control cuts down lead times to customers as the end to end process is managed in house, meaning that orders are delivered to specification on time.
An additional benefit of dealing directly with a manufacturer is that products can be designed and manufactured to suit your bespoke requirements.

WDS can help with the in-house design and manufacture of a completely bespoke part to suit a customer’s precise needs. Projects undertaken by the WDS Bespoke Parts Design and Manufacture service range from an adaptation of an existing part through to a completely unique solution designed and developed specifically for the customer.

Excellent health and safety performance is fundamental to our business. It is essential that we provide a safe working environment for our employees and that our components are safe and fit for purpose.
We aim to minimise accidents and dangerous occurrences, and aim to have none. The WDS Health and Safety committee set our overall policy for the management of health and safety. We aim to continually improve standards of health and safety within our business. We have clear policies and procedures and appropriate risk assessment techniques backed by training and clear communication.
Our training is focused not only on specific hazards but also the wider obligations of management and our business. These activities are overseen by appropriately qualified and experienced health and safety advisers and are subject to regular audit, both internally and externally.
The Health and Safety performance is closely monitored within the business with regular HSE meetings. This incorporates analysis of accidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences. It also considers the wider impact of policy and procedures on our colleagues.
