What are the dos and don'ts of using hoist rings?

Do's

Observe working load limitations (be especially careful with eyebolts used for angle lifts – see sling angle diagram).
Visually inspect hoist ring prior to use.
Fully tighten hoist ring to recommended torque. Full thread engagement is required (no space between swivel bushing and lift).
Assure proper thread depth - do not shim.
Make sure hoist rings have free travel - it must swivel and pivot without restrictions.
When installing in soft metal, such as aluminium, the minimum effective thread engagement should be two times the diameter of the thread (1-1/2 times bolt diameter – steel).

Don'ts

Never pull a Centre Pull Style hoist ring from the side.
Never use an oversized hook in eyebolts or hoist rings
Never use excessive sling angle.
Never steam clean or degrease hoist rings (could cause rusting and binding).
Never apply shock loads.
Never allow the side of a hoist ring to make contact with the lift.

How is this hoist ring assembled?

In order to install this hoist ring, securely fasten the central cap screw to the recommended tightening torque, as specified in the product data table. For convenient on-site installation, you can also locate the maximum tightening torque indicated on the top of the hoist ring.

This hoist ring is manufactured from alloy steel that has been electroless nickel plated. This nickel plating provides additional surface protection for the hoist ring, meaning it is suitable for harsher environments. This coating does not contain cadmium or chromium, is environmentally friendly, and is proven to be effective in extreme conditions. It provides surface hardness, lubricity, and more effective corrosion protection than paints. The screw in the centre of the hoist ring is secured with a circlip, meaning it is captive and cannot be removed easily from the hoist ring.

Load Rating and Certification

Every WDS hoist ring comes with a proof test certificate and appropriate CE markings. Each hoist ring has been pull tested 200% of load capacity. To determine the load capacity of your desired hoist ring, consult the product data table. Keep in mind that if a sling is in use or if the load is positioned at an angle to the hoist ring, the maximum load capacity will be affected. For precise calculations and an illustrative example, refer to the diagram provided on the product information page.
