What are tommy nuts?

These tommy nuts, also known as knurled thumb nuts, are flat cylindrical threaded nuts with a knurl on the outside edge. This knurl allows for easy adjustment by hand by providing extra grip. To allow the user to increase the torque, the nut has three holes around the outside diameter of the nut, this means the nut can be tightened with an extension rod or a custom tool. This feature makes these nuts perfect for applications where a standard hexagon wrench or spanner cannot reach.
